If you are wondering about how to give your baby a bath or how old your baby should be before giving them a bath in their baby tub or the big tub. If these are some of the questions you have in mind and have been worrying you lately, you are in the right place.
Below we will discuss some major points to keep in mind when you are taking care of a baby and want to keep your baby safe, healthy and happy.
What are Some Major Points to Keep in Mind?
Once your baby’s umbilical cord stump has fallen off and healed is when you should start to use a baby tub for bathing your baby. As soon as your baby is able to sit up by themselves or with little help around three to six months, you might want to gradually switch them into a family tub. It is also important to note that you shouldn’t leave your baby alone in the bathtub and also keep in mind to check if the water is the right temperature and will not burn your baby’s sensitive skin.
Usually one of the scariest things new parents have to deal with is giving their baby a bath. It is important to note that you don’t have to worry about putting your little one into a baby bath tub for the first few weeks. You should only do so when your baby’s umbilical cord stump falls out and the wound is healed. It is then when your baby is at least six months old that you should try to use a big bathtub, which is around when they will be able to hold their head properly on their own without your support.
What is a Baby Tub?
A baby tub is a small plastic tub. If you have a baby tub or are going to buy one, check if it has a hole in the bottom to allow the water to drain out once you have finished bathing your baby. There are some bath tubs which have been made to fit in sinks which can be very handy.
When preparing a bath for your baby you should ensure that the water is warm enough and remember to remove any jewellery such as rings from your hands. Keep a cup, wash cloth, mild baby soap, baby shampoo and towel at hand. Use the cup to fill the bathtub with about two to three inches of lukewarm water. Next check the temperature of the water using the inside of your wrist.
Now, gently lower your bay into the bath, and make sure to support their head and neck with your hands. Use the washcloth without adding soap to wash your baby’s face. Then soap up the rest of the baby’s body. Your baby will most likely enjoy the bath if you keep on pouring warm water over their body to keep them warm.
You can wash your baby’s hair with mild baby shampoo and massage it into the scalp. Rinse the shampoo with your hands or a cup.
When you are done washing your baby, wrap them in a towel and pat them gently to dry them. If you like, you can use a bay lotion to keep their skin moist and healthy.
