Bathing a Baby

When the umbilical cord stump finally falls off, it is quite safe to immerse your baby in a tub, sink or baby tub. You might want to keep baths to a max of three per week until your baby turns one year to avoid drying out your baby’s sensitive skin. It is also important to stick to mid baby products when you are choosing products. If you are having doubts, you might want to consult an expert such as a doctor to help you figure out the best products for your baby. Choosing the right baby products will help keep your baby comfortable and healthy as he begins to grow and develop.

Here are the steps you might need to bathe your little bundle of joy!

First gather some clean washcloths, a cup to pour water over the baby, mild soapy water and have everything within reach before you start. Then fill a basin with about two inches of water that feels warm to your elbow. Undress your baby and place him or her in the water feet first using one of your hands to support the head and the other to guide. Most of the baby’s body and face needs to be kept above the water level, so you will need to pour warm water often over the baby’s body to keep the baby warm.

Use soapy water on areas that get dirty quickly like the bottom, armpits and kneepits and rinse the rest of the body with warm water.

Use shampoo once or twice every week and gently massage a baby’s scalp, including soft spots. When reminiscing away the shampoo from the baby’s head, cup your hand across the baby’s head so that suds won’t get into the baby’s eyes.
